In commemoration with Vermont's, their native state, gay marriage act, which took place at midnight September 1st, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream have decided to rename their popular Chubby Hubby into Hubby Hubby for the next thirty days. The pint art will also feature a wedding cake with two grooms’ figurines on top.
According to an interview given to the Boston Herald, Ben and Jerry’s CEO Walt Freese agrees that:
“The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction, and something worth celebrating with peace, love - and plenty of ice cream."
A primordial hippie brand, Ben and Jerry’s have dedicated their ice creams to important figures on the left side of the civil rights campaign. Artists like Phish, John Lennon, Willie Nelson, The Grateful Dead’s guitarist Jerry García and Stephen Colbert have been paid homage through the artistry involved in the culinary and marketing experience their pints provide. Chubby Hubby combines chocolate covered, peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets in a vanilla malt ice cream base, swirled with fudge and peanut butter.
According to Celi Williams, one of the franchise directors for Ben and Jerry’s in the Island, “Hubby Hubby comes as a celebration with the hope that their support for this movement will move forward other states into marriage equality. Ben and Jerry’s is a company that gives back a lot to the community, and whom are not afraid to be very vocal about their standing. I am proud to be part of them.” On their own accord, Ben and Jerry’s Puerto Rico runs a campaign of stray animals’ rescue. They also support, through payment and exposition, local musicians by lending their locale as venues for them to expose their art to urban consumers.
Parallel to their matrix, Ben and Jerry’s Puerto Rico supports the civil rights movement and same sex marriage initiative. The promotional [re]branding of the flavor is expected to arrive, with a delay, to Puerto Rico around the middle of September.
